Traditionally, citizens must be willing to shed blood for the nation and their liberty.

African Americans significantly contributed to America’s growth through military service.
African Americans fought in American wars to demonstrate their loyalty and their right to liberty through their sacrifice of blood.

Why did African Americans believe it was necessary to fight and shed blood for the United States of America?
